Production Supervisor
Responsible to: Senior Supervisor (with overall accountability to the Production Manager)
Hours: Monday to Friday: 07:00 - 15:30, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Flexibility and overtime may be required in line with operational needs.
Your Mission:
To lead and support the production team on a day-to-day basis so that safe, high-quality products are manufactured to plan, on time and to the required standards.
Working under the direction of the Senior Supervisor, the role provides visible leadership on the factory floor, motivates employees, reinforces agreed standards and escalates issues promptly.

Job Purpose:
To provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of the production team, working under the direction of the Senior Supervisor. The role leads employees in delivering the agreed production plan, coordinates workflow, monitors performance, reinforces safety and quality standards, and escalates matters requiring management action.
The Senior Supervisor retains overall accountability for the production area, resource decisions and formal people management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the production team on a day-to-day basis, communicating work allocations, priorities and standards agreed with the Senior Supervisor.
- Set a positive example, motivate employees and promote an accountable, collaborative and team-focused working environment.
- Monitor progress against the production plan and promptly report output risks, shortages, downtime or competing priorities to the Senior Supervisor.
- Maintain a visible presence on the factory floor, provide clear day-to-day direction, answer routine queries and reinforce agreed expectations.
- Check that products are manufactured to the required quality standards; identify defects, rework or process concerns and support agreed corrective actions.
- Lead by example in following health, safety and environmental procedures, risk controls, safe systems of work and housekeeping standards; intervene where there is an immediate risk and escalate concerns.
- Lead or support daily briefings, handovers and team communications, ensuring employees understand the production plan, changes and key issues.
- Monitor attendance, timekeeping, conduct and performance on a day-to-day basis, give appropriate informal feedback and provide accurate information to the Senior Supervisor. Formal action remains the responsibility of the appropriate manager, supported by the People team.
- Support employee induction, on-the-job training, coaching and competency checks, helping team members build the skills and confidence required for their roles.
- Provide leadership for routine day-to-day coordination when the Senior Supervisor is temporarily unavailable, escalating significant operational or people decisions to the Production Manager or other designated manager.
- Maintain accurate production, labour, absence, quality and downtime information and submit timely updates to the Senior Supervisor.
- Liaise with Planning, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Warehouse, Transport and other teams on routine matters, involving the Senior Supervisor where priorities, commitments or resources may be affected.
- Participate in root-cause problem solving, waste reduction, workplace organisation and continuous improvement activities led by the Senior Supervisor or Production Manager.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a team leader, lead operative or supervisor in a manufacturing, production or similarly operational environment.
- Experience of leading or supporting a team working to production plans, output targets, quality standards and health and safety requirements.
- Experience of giving day-to-day direction, monitoring shop-floor performance, resolving routine issues and escalating matters appropriately.
- Experience within timber, joinery, doors or a related manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong team-leadership skills, with the ability to set clear expectations, motivate others and lead by example.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to provide practical day-to-day direction, coaching and support.
- Sound understanding of manufacturing operations, quality control and safe working practices.
- Able to organise assigned activities, monitor progress, make routine operational decisions and recognise when a matter must be escalated.
- Able to give constructive feedback and reinforce standards fairly and consistently.
- Numerate and able to record and interpret basic production information accurately.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and production or business systems, or able to learn them quickly.
- A relevant supervisory, manufacturing, lean/continuous improvement or health and safety qualification is desirable.

- Required safety, housekeeping and quality standards are consistently reinforced on the factory floor.
- Production data, handovers and updates provided to the Senior Supervisor are accurate and timely.
- Team members receive effective coaching, operational guidance and support to develop their capability.
- Assigned corrective actions, improvement activities and projects are completed to the agreed standard and timescale.
