Fire Doors Decorative Finishes
Decorative Cladding
Forza FD30, FD60, FD90, and FD120 fire-rated door cores are certified under Forza product certificate No. FRTD497. They can have decorative finishes of either timber veneer, plastic-based laminate up to 2mm thick, or paint and varnish up to 0.5mm thick.
Additional cladding, over and above the maximum 2mm thick material above outlined is permitted to be bonded with adhesive and screws fixed to the door leaf faces to produce decorative profile.
As a result, the cladding will remain in place for the duration of integrity fire-rated door assembly, making a positive contribution to fire resistance performance.
It must be ensured that the addition of decorative cladding does not unbalance the door leaves in normal service in ambient conditions.
Additional protection
Plastic, PVC, or metal plates to a maximum of 2mm thick may be surface mounted to the doors, but, if more than 800mm in length by nominally 200mm wide, they must be attached in a way that would prevent them from distorting the door leaf, e.g., glued with thermally softening adhesive or screwed with maximum 12mm long screws, at minimum 250mm centres, and fitted in such a way so they will not be prevented from falling away by being trapped under door stops, glazing beads or handle escutcheons etc.
Additional protective finishes:
(FD30 and FD60 only)
• Acrovyn Door Face Protection
• Intastop Anti-bacterial Impact Protection Sheet inc. Hygienilac
• Intastop I-Gienic and I-Gienic+ Protection Sheet
Door types that are approved to be installed with FD30-54mm or FD60-64mm thick leaves are permitted to be installed with recessed plates to a maximum of 2mm deep.
